Changes for New 2016 VW Models | Park Place VW in Rochester, MN

Volkswagen will begin to roll out its 2016 models to dealerships this month. The updated Volkswagen fleet includes features and upgrades for every model, with the biggest changes coming in the technology department. Infotainment technology that brings an extra level of connectivity between the cars and their drivers.

The new MIB II infotainment system has been added to almost every model. This system comes with VW Car-Net App-Connect, which allows users to access select apps from their smartphone directly through the unit. Volkswagen Group of America is one of the first in the industry to support all three available connected car systems: Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. Nearly all vehicles will also come with USB connectivity.

In addition to entertainment features, the new models will also feature great advances in driver assistance features to make time behind the wheel safer and easier. These features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, Lane Assist and Park Assist.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist) will be available on the 2016 CC, Golf, Golf GTI, Golf SportWagen, Golf R and Jetta models.

The 2015 Golf debuted the Automatic Post-Collision Braking system. The idea behind this system is that a wreck doesn’t stop at the collision. After the initial impact, cars can continue moving, causing more damage, at worst causing additional collisions. This system applies the brakes when a collision is detected by the airbag sensors. This system is now standard on all Beetle, Beetle Convertible, Jetta and Touareg models, as well as the entire Golf family.

Lane Departure Warning (Lane Assist) helps to warn drivers when they begin to drift from their lane (from drowsiness or inattentiveness behind the wheel). If the driver does not react, the system countersteers to avoid a major accident. This is available on the CC, Golf, Golf GTI, Golf SportWagen and Golf R.

Parking Steering Assistant (Park Assist) identifies parking spots and steers the vehicle into them. It utitlizes Park Pilot as well as a multifunction camera to guide drivers into either perpendicular or parallel spaces. Park Assist will be available on Golf, Golf GTI, Golf SportWagen and e-Golf models.
